WTF is a thyroid? Well… I’m so glad you asked!… It’s a little butterfly shaped gland that sits in your neck and it’s responsible for SO many things working in your body… from temperature regulation to metabolism, mood to energy, hair growth to fertility.
So, if your thyroid isn’t happy… chances are you won’t be either!
It’s estimated that at least 1 in 8 women have an issue with their thyroid, and so many of those women don’t even know about it.
Our thyroid can be overactive (hyperthyroid), or (hypothyroid), which is most common.
Signs Of A Thyroid Issue:
The way we can support the thyroid naturally HAS to start with diet and lifestyle. We need to check for:
- Food intolerances and allergies
- Ensuring we have enough protein
- Making sure we have enough nutrients and the right balance of them (selenium, iron, vitamin D, zinc and iodine)
- Getting the right balance of gut flora
- Optimised detoxification
- Stress reduction and adrenal support

Energetic And Emotional Components:
As well as our diet, I really believe we need to look at the energetic components of the thyroid too and this can start with the Chakra system.
Chakra is the Sanskrit word for “wheel” and it refers to energy points in the body. There are 7 main chakras along the spine, and this system originated in India between 1,500 and 500 BC.
Each chakra corresponds to certain organs as well as emotional and spiritual aspects of our lives. Whilst there’s limited science behind it, it’s believed that when the chakras are open, our energy freely flows and health is abundant.
For example, our thyroid is located at our Throat Chakra, which is our fifth chakra and it’s all about speaking our truth and communicating properly. If it’s under active we may not be able to express ourselves fully and “swallow our feelings”, but if it’s over active we may find ourselves talking too much, gossiping, being critical or judgemental. (please note, under active and over active chakras don’t necessarily correspond to an over or under active thyroid).
In order to heal the chakra we need to either practice communicating and speaking our truth, or calming down our rate of talking/ gossiping/ criticising!
The colour associated with chakra is also blue so wearing blue, using blue crystals and eating things like blueberries can apparently help unblock this area.
So what do you think? Can you relate to any of this? Will you be wearing more blue??
